The Homewreckers Review

Never love something that can’t love you back.

These are the practical words spoken to Hattie Kavanaugh by her father-in-law, Hank, who gives her this painful advice about houses. Hattie falls head over heels for a historic old house in Savannah, Georgia.

Unfortunately, saving the house isn’t possible. Hattie’s heart breaks for the loss of the old home. Her heart shreds not only for losing the house but because she placed her entire livelihood, and that of Kavanaugh & Sons, on this money pit. This gamble leaves Hattie needing money in a hurry to get the company and herself back on their feet.

Interestingly, a home improvement show producer comes along and offers Hattie the chance to host her own reality show. She needs the money, so she finally accepts the challenge. But, The Homewreckers quickly becomes its own animal, leaving Hattie with feelings she doesn’t understand. She also has trouble coping. Not to mention, the unearthed mystery of Hattie’s favorite teacher comes to light during the renovation.

The Homewreckers is the perfect summer read. Whether you sit next to the pool or on the beach, this book will keep you entertained long after the sun goes down. My only complaint is that the foil loomed larger than the happily ever after, which irked me a bit. Yet, this is an excellent read that I recommend to anyone who needs a little guilty pleasure in their summer plans.
